Queensbury Relay for Life kickoff

My drummer son and piper niece joined others from her band to lead the survivors' lap of the local Relay for Life event last night. I got to test out the capabilities of my new camera.

My son and his original drumming instructor who also played in a pipeband with my Dad back in the day.

Closeup of my niece on pipes.

My 7yo sans teeth. He is quite an accomplished snare drummer already but was very goofy at the event.

My other niece, who was a bit camera shy. Good use of the zoom.

My Brother-in-law, dad of the other three pictured here.

I got a new camera!!!

Finally, after hobbling along with the camera that went for a swim last summer. I got a Canon PowerShot SX10IS. Lots of neat features to figure out!

Memorial Day parades...

... so far. Four out of five parades done. It was originally supposed to be seven, but my son was able to bow out of two of them tomorrow.

SGPB in Scotia, NY parade last Wednesday. They ended before we thought they would, so we missed them playing or even marching past us. We'll have plenty of other chances to see them though, lol.

Hudson River at Stillwater, NY. Did you know it is the quadricentennial of English explorer Henry Hudson's voyage up the river in 1609? He didn't make it up this far, but other explorers did soon after.

The Stillwater, Schuylerville, Saratoga area was big during the Revolutionary War, so the re-eneactors in the parade reflected that era.

My son, the one who forgot his glengarry, or hat, but is sporting his new shades.

Really rainy start to the parade Saturday morning in Lake George, NY. Once the downpour was over, we got no more rain the rest of the day. Dh is in the feathered bonnet leading Galloway Gaelic Pipes and Drums.

We watched from a dry spot at the new Visitors' Center.

Ceremony in Shepard Park.

Dh hates when I let the kids do this during solemn moments. Like I can catch him right when he darts off -- I have to pull out my camera first, lol.

On to Hague, NY at the other end of Lake George for another parade that afternoon. Fifes and drums from Fort Ticonderoga.
