I love how my first attempt at a toddler-dress-from-a-shirt turned out. Too bad it is at least 6 sizes too big for its recipient, lol.
My sister-in-law gave me a men's striped button-down shirt from the GAP. I've wanted to follow this tutorial for awhile and I thought it would be cute for her 15-month-old daughter. It'll fit her in a few years or it will go to another niece.
The front is the back and the back is the front. I even removed the pocket and reused it on the front of the dress. I used vintage eyelet lace on the bottom hem and on the shoulder straps.
The buttons now go up the back of the dress. The only mistake I made was in folding over the ends of the straps. I meant to fold them so the fraying edges would be hidden once I sewed them to the dress. Instead, I folded them outward. At least they won't be seen when the dress is worn.

I tried to do this too and also ended up with a dress way way too big for my 4 year old. So I ended up turning it into an apron 'cause she was so looking forward to getting something "new" from me. LOL.

What a serendipitous find. I was just at the Salvation Army looking at men's shirts thinking about making girls dresses from them.
I had been thinking about the little pillowcase dresses and wondering if I could do something similar with men's shirts.
These are adorable.
