Hats with ribbons

I finally used up the last of the reclaimed sweater wool
I bought on Esty and used here and here.
Grand total of 6 hats and a scarf from two used sweaters.

I now have sweaters to unravel myself to try it out.
Turns out to be a very economical way to get wool yarn.
Environmentally-friendly too.

This is my niece modeling two hats I've since named after her.
They actually fit me but look much cuter on her with her curls.

The ribbon is Lindsay tartan, which is the tartan of my son's band. I got the idea of adding ribbon from Natalie (Happy 4th Birthday, Maria!), and knew that specific ribbon would work wonderfully.

Here's a scarf, with the windowpane effect of treble stitches, that matches both hats. Too bad I didn't have enough ribbon left to add to each end of the scarf....

Black Friday shopping

We didn't have to get up early
on Black Friday and fight the crowds.

There were none in Lake Placid, NY,
unless you count the three guys carrying snowboards.

Instead, we had fun looking at the quaintly decorated windows.

And making a few new friends.

We are heading to Lake Placid in the morning

for dinner with my sister and her family.

We expect it to look a bit like it did last year.
Maybe we should go there for Christmas instead....

Clearing even more out

I brought a big plastic bin back from storage last week and it was like having Christmas a month early. Even though I only packed it up six months ago, I forgot most of what was in it.

It was all fun to look at and photograph as it will be going up on Etsy soon too. Now if I could only find the one box I was specifically looking for.....

Some sewing and lots of crocheting

My father-in-law has move back home after a hospital stay and the boys and I wanted to make something for him to have on his bed. I think the color combo is bright and cheery.

This was very easy to make. I bought two remnant pieces of fleece. The blue one was big enough for the body of the blanket. With the red I just cut 4 long strips from it to make the border.

Good practice with the zigzag stitch, which apparently I need to practice more with. Hopefully people won't be too inclined to look very closely. (Reminder to self, actually pay attention to the tension. It might help.)

I want to use the same idea to use fabric to trim my collection of old wool blankets -- like this one was done.

I finished up another custom earflap hat for my son's friend. The recipient has a bigger head than my model here so it doesn't look like a bucket on him, lol.
