Enjoying the scenery

It is very nice to have a summer schedule

that allows for spur-of-the-moment trips,

especially when it is a beautiful and quiet

Thursday afternoon out on Lake George.

I never realized how hard it is

to take photos from a moving boat

and my captain didn't like slowing down.

This guy was faking it.

This one wasn't.

I am so far behind on everything.

Here are some of the photos I took

at the band fundraiser last Monday,

Rocking bagpipes

In anticipation of our upcoming trip to Belfast and Glasgow,

Oran Mor Pipe Band had a guest bartending event

at the Rusty Anchor Waterfront Bar and Grill in Watervliet, NY.

They also played with the Erin Harkes Band.

You've never heard "Amazing Grace" played like this!

Here is another tune they played that night.

My son is the snare drummer behind the guy in black.

Gaillardia flowers in full bloom

About 3 years ago, I spread

a package of gaillardia flower seeds

along the seawall at my mom-in-law's camp.

They are so prolific, the blooms now 

stretch almost the length of shoreline.

 

They contrast nicely with the blues of the water

and the white of the picket fence.

Such a variety of bright, warm colors

intermingling in the sunshine.

Soon the flowers will fade and it will be time

to harvest the seeds and scatter them further afield.

Can't wait to see them next year.

Basket full of hexagons

Months later, my basket runneth over
with finished hexagons for my next afghan.
 Only a few more to finish up.

My crochet bag has been going with me
to the pool, lake and other outings.
While the boys have fun, I crochet.

Almost done putting one row of gray around each motif
then I can start attaching them together.
If it isn't quite big enough, I have yarn leftover
for more or to encircle the whole thing.

It will probably be months before I finish it.
Can't see myself out working in the summer heat
once the pieces are all attached.
That is a cool weather project!

Still life at bedtime

It started out as a bedtime delay tactic.

The 8yo told me he just had to paint me a picture.

What a sweetie, he knows how to work me.

Here is his fruit bowl still-life,

partially based on reality and

the rest from his imagination, he says.

He should use this delay tactic more often.

Visiting the ski slope in summer

Who would think that a great place to visit
on a warm summer day would be a ski slope,
but most have warm-weather offerings.

My oldest was at Invermark College of Piping and Drumming
at Hunter Mountain Resort in the Catskills last week.
After picking him up, we roamed around the mountain.
