Shown up by a 13yo

My oldest son had a couple of friends over after school yesterday to work on Spanish class projects. They needed t-shirts to go with their presentation on Panama. It was fun having girls in the house.

We talked about sewing and crafts and fairies and teased my boy a bit. He's making a working model of the Panama Canal. That fits his engineering interests.

His best friend since 6th grade has multiple interests and seems to excel at all of them -- science and math in school, outdoor activities like snowboarding and scuba diving, creative fantasy writing and crafting. She's also the new mama of that little guy up there. (I just had to show him off!)

Her contribution to the Panama project was the above. It is hand-sewn reverse appliqué called mola. Isn't it beautiful?
