My sister-in-law gave me a men's striped button-down shirt from the GAP. I've wanted to follow this tutorial for awhile and I thought it would be cute for her 15-month-old daughter. It'll fit her in a few years or it will go to another niece.
The front is the back and the back is the front. I even removed the pocket and reused it on the front of the dress. I used vintage eyelet lace on the bottom hem and on the shoulder straps.
The buttons now go up the back of the dress. The only mistake I made was in folding over the ends of the straps. I meant to fold them so the fraying edges would be hidden once I sewed them to the dress. Instead, I folded them outward. At least they won't be seen when the dress is worn.
I tried to do this too and also ended up with a dress way way too big for my 4 year old. So I ended up turning it into an apron 'cause she was so looking forward to getting something "new" from me. LOL.
ReplyDeleteWell done with your reconstruction. It looks great!
It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHiya, Julie... Kate here.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in some simple kitchen bottom half curtains (cafe style?) made from your red floral vintage sheets.
Liking that print..
I'll email you : )
Ohhhh,
ReplyDeleteWhat a serendipitous find. I was just at the Salvation Army looking at men's shirts thinking about making girls dresses from them.
I had been thinking about the little pillowcase dresses and wondering if I could do something similar with men's shirts.
These are adorable.
Thanks for sharing.
